U18 Island League hockey is open to players ages 15 to 17.  These players have been in serious competition for the last few years.  Their determination and attention to skill development have allowed them to play in this League.

The graduating U18 player has two choices at the end of the season depending on their skill level.

  • To be recruited for and move on to playing in the Junior Leagues.
  • To play U21 Hockey in the Minor Hockey program and represent their MHA for another three seasons.

The Goals for the U18 age player are:

  • Fun
  • Refining team play and strategy

The U18 Island League teams begin their season with a Placement round to determine which Division they will compete in. Divisions are determined by the strength of the team and not by the category of the Association. Once the League has been formed, the teams usually play between 10 and 15 League games where the players continue in their development.

At the end of League play, the teams are then placed into a Play-Off series based on their Association’s category to determine who will become the Vancouver Island District Champion and represent Vancouver Island at one of the four BC Hockey U18 Championships that are held in different areas of the province each season.  The four categories are Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 and Tier 4.
