U18

Female U18 hockey is open to female player ages 15 to 17 years old. The growth of female hockey continues to allow for opportunities for girls to play on all-female teams, depending on the availability of female players/teams and the interests/skills of the players. Many opportunities exist for female players, from playing in a recreational league to Female U18 A to Female U18 AAA in a provincial league.

Presently, VIAHA offers a Female Midget Recreational Division and a Female U18 A Division. The Female U18 A teams compete within the District for the opportunity to represent Vancouver Island at the BC Hockey Provincial Championships. In addition, Vancouver Island also has a Female U18 AAA District team, which plays against other District Female teams, with the champion having the opportunity to compete nationally at the Esso U18 Female National Championships.

As part of BC Hockey’s Female High Performance Program, players are evaluated with their club teams throughout the season by High Performance Evaluators and will be notified near the end of the season if they have been selected to compete in the U18 BC Cup.

It is from these venues that possible future Olympians can be identified. Opportunities also exist for female players at all levels to be scouted and receive scholarships to attend Colleges and/or Universities in both Canada and the USA.
